Considering pink fondly

This month's color for the ROY G BIV photo challenge (details at the end of the post) is pink. It's not a color I am particularly drawn to ~ or especially fond of ~ but I can't tell you how happy I have been working with these cheerful, bright peony images. After that horrible night in Paris last week, pink & all its associated "innocence" suddenly feels quite welcome.

The peony photos date to last May. I had taken them with this month's ROY in mind, but then completely forgot they existed until I stumbled across them a few weeks ago...a nice surprise in these ever-shorter days of fall. A miniature bouquet of peonies would have been perfect on the table with the dollhouse-sized china tea set (below), which we rediscovered when retrieving my daughter's dollhouse for my three-year-old niece recently. I must admit that I had an inordinate amount of fun arranging the furniture (as some of you may have seen on my Instagram page)...

Participants in the Corri La Vita run/walk event (devoted to raising awareness/money for breast cancer research & patients), wore a gorgeous, vibrant shade of pink this year...

And here are mockups for a few designs I've been working on in the studio...these were created with spring in mind. {The back-right one is also (hot) pink, but the color did not "translate" very well.}

My daughter's eighteenth birthday is tomorrow, and I have lots to do yet, but I will look forward to seeing everyone's pink over the weekend. Wishing you all happy pinkness in the meanwhile!

A few details in case you are not familiar with the
ROY G BIV  photo challenge ~ Artists Jennifer Coyne Qudeen
& Julie Booth started this project a few years ago; each month
is devoted  to a different color of the rainbow. Since we have
already explored the seven "official" colors, we are spending the
rest of the year searching for some bonus colors. Everyone is
welcome to join in the search. Please visit Jennifer &
Julie's blogs for links to each month's participants.

  3. Happy 18th to your daughter!!! I hope her day is truly special - filled with love, laughter, good food and good friends in addition to family.

Your pinks are exquisite. Those peonies have me imagining their seductive aroma is wafting though the open window. Ahhh...

Thank you for participating in our search. Enjoy!

    1. Hello Jennifer ~ Thank you for the birthday wishes for my daughter...she had a wonderful birthday weekend, and we are still enjoying birthday cake!
Glad you enjoyed the peonies - I remember really wanting the deeper pink/almost burgundy ones but only finding pale pink...still, their dozens & dozens of petals, each with their own distinct ruffle, are gorgeous no matter the shade!
Thanks again to you & Julie for inspiring this creative challenge each month (and I'm sorry to have missed some of them this year)...

  5. Lisa,

First of all, happy birthday to Ella! Lots of best wishes to her!

How was the cake this year, did you make a previous design just like the last one? :) :) :) http://www.arzigogolare.blogspot.com.br/2014/11/chocolate-brown.html

The dollhouse is quite 'modern', I remember when you lived here in Brazil, your mother used to make fantastic perfect dollhouses, with more than one floor, filled with antique miniature furniture, curtains, rugs, pictures and paintings hanging on the walls, and all kind of details.

Is my brain still working after so many years? Are my memories correct? Or was at another house where I used to baby-sit?

    The peonies photos are stunning!

    Love,

    1. Vera ~ Thanks so much for the wishes for Ella - she was very excited to become an official "adult" at last, and it's always so much fun to prepare little birthday surprises for her. No matter what age, the cake will always be the highlight for her, I think - this year was a chocolate-espresso cake with buttercream frosting and I made some copper wire song lyrics/notes + copper stars & a beaded "18" to decorate it.
And yes, you remember very well the dollhouses/furniture my mother used to make! With the intricate pieces she made she taught me that anything is possible - I still remember the tiny, perfect violin she carved/pieced together, and a fireplace she sculpted from soapstone and then faced with tiny bricks that she handmade/fired & then finished it all off with little wooden doors on the ovens (it was one of those old-fashioned, traditional - enormous - kitchen fireplaces). This one of Ella's is very different - though perhaps more like the quite modern house we lived in while in Brazil (which I recall my mother never really liked!).
      Hope you are all well!

  6. Those peonies are especially delicious close up and that dolls house with those tiny cups and saucers brings back such memories. I had one just like that 60 years ago ... oh my, too long ago to admit to!

    1. Thank you, Margaret! I must admit that I am quite besotted by that little tea set as well - and it's surprisingly sturdy too (more so than my life-sized china tea set)! Nice that you can recall the memories of yours as a girl - no matter how quickly those darned years do persist in flying past!

    1. Hell Susan & Elizabeth! I appreciate your lovely comment on the designs - I've been enjoying working on them, and it is always rewarding to do those first test prints and then have a clearer idea of what to do next...

  8. just love the variety of pinks, and textures and subjects - but the peonies. They say so much just by being so beautiful...Go well!

  9. Thank you, Fiona! And yes - the peonies! - even though I really am not a fan of pink, there is just something about their glorious profuseness & exuberance that I absolutely love! And they are perfect in this shade...the deeper, sort of burgundy versions are lovely - and more "my" colors - but there is nothing like a pale pink peony!
    Thanks for stopping by...
